🚄 Transport & Connectivity Projects

The Raipur–Visakhapatnam Expressway is the single largest infrastructure project in the region. It will slash travel time from 13 hours to just 6–7 hours and reduce distance from 595 km to 464 km. The expressway starts near Abhanpur (south of Raipur) and traverses through Dhamtari, Kanker, and Kondagaon in Chhattisgarh before crossing into Odisha and Andhra Pradesh to reach Visakhapatnam Port.

3. Raipur–Naya Raipur Expressway (Atal Path)

Already operational, the Atal Path Expressway provides fast, access-controlled connectivity between Raipur city center and Naya Raipur. It crosses over GE Road (NH-53) via multiple flyovers and an elevated corridor, significantly easing traffic on the formerly congested route.

4. Naya Raipur–Raipur–Bhilai–Durg MetroLite

Perhaps the most transformative project for daily commuters, the proposed MetroLite system will connect all four major cities in the corridor — Naya Raipur, Raipur, Bhilai, and Durg — via a light rail transit system. Announced in the Chhattisgarh Budget 2023, the MetroLite will serve the estimated 3.1 million people in the tri-city metro area. This will be the first mass rapid transit system in Chhattisgarh.

5. Raipur–Ranchi–Dhanbad Expressway

7. CBD Railway Station — Naya Raipur

IIT Bhilai's permanent campus at Kutelabhata (Durg district) is partially operational. Phase-A infrastructure is largely built and in active use — the institute moved from its transit campus at GEC Raipur to the permanent campus on 1 August 2023, and the 2023-24 BTech batch was the first to start from the new site. The campus was formally dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister in February 2024.

Phase-A currently hosts students, faculty, and core academic activities with multiple academic blocks, department labs, hostels (2 boys' + 1 girls'), staff residential blocks, a central library, data centre, health centre, and basic sports facilities — supporting an intake of about 1,200 students.

Phase-B has been approved with a budget of over ₹2,200 crore and construction is now underway. It will expand capacity to around 2,700 students with additional hostels, married-student housing, upgraded research labs, a large-scale auditorium, a comprehensive sports complex, and expanded academic/administrative blocks — all part of the long-term vision of a 12,000-seat campus over 20 years.
